Dena serves as CAP91 Partners’ Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. She has a long history in investment banking and operations, originally working with Hiter at Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co., and then for 20 years at Harris Williams, having joined in 1991 as the third employee of HW.
After 10 years at Harris Williams as an investment banker, Dena spent another 10 years as Harris Williams’ COO and FinOp, where she had responsibility for the firm’s operations, finance, HR, and compliance functions. She transitioned from Harris Williams in 2011 and spent the next several years as a strategic and operational consultant to entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations. She also served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, focused on impact investing and using philanthropy to support small business owners and founders.
Dena’s board service includes privately held companies in a variety of industries, as well as several nonprofits, governmental agencies, and educational institutions. Dena earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988, graduating with Distinction, as well as a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1993.
